Check Engine Light Diagnosis

Depending on the problem, there can be a significant difference in the time to diagnose the issue(s). FYI: A code spit out from a parts store is not a check engine light diagnosis. It’s the first step in diagnosing the root cause. The code needs to be tested and confirmed. And that’s what we’ll do at Girls Auto Clinic. Patience is a virtue with the CEL. We appreciate yours!

Pull Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) on our special scanner designed to read the computers on your car and help us diagnose any engine performance issues.

Perform diagnostic tests on vehicle based on DTCs.

Reference related Technical Service Bulletins and research DTCs to help diagnosis the problem and determine the appropriate path forward.

Document diagnostic information on the work order (codes, freeze frame, live data).

Advise on the proper course of action, potential warranty coverage, further testing, and/or recommended repairs.

Brake Inspection

A brake inspection requires our techs to go on a test drive and remove all 4 tires to check the entire brake component system for any issues. If your vehicle has drum brakes, we will need to also remove the drums covering the brakes.

Test drive the vehicle and test several braking methods to check for brake noise and other brake issues like pulsation.

Check the parking brake for proper operation.

Check Brake Fluid for color and level.

Remove all 4 tires and check all brake lines and components for rust and possible leaking.

Inspect and measure Brake Pads/Shoes and note condition. Document the brake pad/shoe thickness for both the front and rear?

Inspect brake rotors and note condition and thickness

Check Brake calipers/Wheel cylinders for proper operation and any leaks.

Make notes of any maintenance or repairs recommended in the next 1500 miles
