April Car Care Series: Getting Greener With Your Car
Sponsored by Renewable Fuels Association
We know you care about the environment—and so do I. I understand not everyone is ready (or able) to shell out thousands of dollars on newer, eco-friendly car. The good news? You don’t have to. There’s a simple, affordable way to reduce your carbon footprint and save money—without upgrading your ride.
Enter Ethanol 15 (E15).
What is E15?
E15 is a cleaner-burning fuel made of 15% ethanol (a renewable biofuel made mostly from corn) and 85% gasoline. Most of the gas we use today is E10, which contains just 10% ethanol. That extra 5% makes a big difference by having a multitude of benefits for drivers beside being better for the environment.
E15 has been available for over 10 years and drivers have already logged over 126 billion miles on E15 across the country.
Why Should You Care About E15?
Switching to E15 isn’t just about using a different pump at the gas station - it’s about making a real impact on your carbon footprint. Here’s why E15 is worth choosing the next time you’re at the pump:
It’s better for the environment. Compared to gasoline, ethanol reduces emissions that cause air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by 40-50%.
It saves you money. On average, E15 costs at least 25 cents less per gallon compared to regular gasoline. That's real savings, especially if you’re filling up often.
It supports American farmers. Ethanol is made from renewable sources like corn, which means choosing E15 helps fuel the economy right here at home.
Can Your Car Use E15?
The lower-cost, lower-carbon E15 blend is approved for use in all 2001 & newer vehicles and all flex fuel vehicles (FFVs) or more than 95 percent of vehicles on the road today. Chances are E15 is already approved for your vehicle. That means no fancy upgrades, no new technology—just a smarter choice at the pump.
Where Can You Find E15?
E15 is rolling out at more gas stations nationwide every day. 👉 Check out this map of E15 and E85 gas stations here (make sure to select "Show E15").
Next time you fill up, see if your station offers it. If not, keep an eye out—chances are, it’ll be there soon.
The Bottom Line
Going green with your car doesn’t have to mean shelling out money for an upgraded vehicle or making huge changes to your lifestyle. Simply switching to E15 can help you reduce emissions, save money, and support a more sustainable fuel source—all with one easy decision at the pump.
Small changes can lead to big benefits—for your wallet and the planet. Next time you fuel up, consider E15. Every mile counts.
